From 21-28 August 2019, Honorata Konon, a lawyer, took part in the 12th International Polish-Russian Summer School of Law and Humanities in Irkutsk (Russia), on the Lake Baikal, whose main theme was: “Not just the law – environmental protection instruments”.
Honorata Konon, a graduate of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Faculty of Law and Administration, delivered a paper in English entitled: “Environmental protection issues on the example of the activities of the International Seabed Authority.” Honorata Konon presented an issue related to the law of the sea, raising the issue of legal regulation of research and exploration of the ocean floor, conducted in order to find sources of mineral deposits and the issue of the impact of exploitation of the studied areas on the natural environment.
The event was organised by three cooperating universities, i.e.: the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Irkutsk State University – IGU (Russia) and St. Petersburg State University – SPbGU (Russia). During the conference, papers were delivered by academics as well as doctoral students and students. The working languages of the conference were Russian and English. This event was an opportunity to present and compare the Russian and Polish approaches to environmental protection in both countries.
